…I'm realizing I never posted about actually playing more myself after my Mighty rage-quit. I did in fact come back to it soon after, ridiculously upgraded my gear to +99 (and then again) with a ton of runes, and made it a joke. I then stopped playing without ever touching the final dungeon because I needed to not spend hours and hours attempting that. Since there will very likely be DLC I'll try it whenever that drops.

I'll give it a try after I eat dinner now if you haven't resumed yourself yet.

EDIT: Rescued! I think I lucked out and got through that dungeon pretty quickly when I beat it myself (might have even been a very lucky first try?) so I forgot how rough that second set of enemies could be, so good luck with that. Hopefully you got the swords/shields once they finally started showing up; the first few floors had me worried but by the time I rescued you I had some good equipment.

Thanks!

Yeah, thankfully I got some decent equipment in that run, but it's still easy to overestimate what you can or can't do with the heavy hitters haha.

Edit: yeah, that was the run, I finally beat the dungeon. Thanks :)

Does this game improve on inventory management? I got so burned out on constantly juggling inventory in and out of pots in the previous game I burned out

The pot management is still exactly the same, but I am a weirdo who enjoys minmaxing my inventory space.

I love that aspect as well. I just can't stand the UI with the constant dialog boxes to manage it. The whole thing is a complex management system shoehorned into an archaic 16 bit JRPG UI from the early 90s

This is the first proper Shiren game I've played and I didn't find it that bad to manage the inventory. There are some things I got a little annoyed by with pots and then I realized I had gone 10s of hours without noticing the prompt to use R to insert/remove multiple things at once, whoops. After that it was fairly smooth.

But I did always play with the display settings meant for streaming where you can see the full contents of your inventory at all times (the contents of pots are just icons, but you can name the pots to help organize). That probably reduced a lot of the menu-ing to check what I had.

I really enjoy the progression of this Shiren a good bit more with plenty of small upgrades and additions to the experience over time. Just finished the Extra Inference dungeon and got my first Synthesis Pot [4] :D

Such an addicting game.

I see this game is $59.99. And I guess I actually have Tower of Fortune on Vita that I never played…

…is it worth getting this new one, or should I try the previous entry to see if I even like it? Do they play much different?

I haven't played it but based on my experience with other Shiren games, it will be pretty similar. I'd play Tower of Fortune, which is great, and see how you like it!

They play similarly. Tower of Fortune is a super deep game, with a ton of... eveything. Serpentcoil is more focused and quicker overall. Clear the main dungeon in Tower first and if you want more then go for Serpentcoil

Reviving the thread because it's the OT!

Do y'all Shiren players have a goto for a place where Shiren players gather to answer Rescue requests? I remember there were some hashtags on Twitter but I forgot them.

I don't know specifically about rescue sharing, but here are some Shiren resources

Thank you so much! Will use these.

Yesterday I started exploring the Sacred Ocean Tunnel. What fascinates me the most about Shiren is how much a run can go well and then suddenly you're just dead.

I got killed by Asuka :'(

A monster turns me into a onigiri, and then I step onto a rotting trap right after. Very devious. Can't help but laugh getting insta killed after being turned into a rotting onigiri
